Below, you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about how First Choice prices our moving services.

How does First Choice calculate the price for local moves?
Pricing for local moves is simple: you pay an hourly rate for each member of your First Choice crew, including travel time. The hourly rate includes the cost of the truck and any equipment used by First Choice. (You should plan for an hour of round-trip travel time for local moves in the same city as a First Choice service location.)

What about interstate moves?
For interstate moves, First Choice charges a fixed rate per cubic foot of volume on the truck. The rate differs for each move based on the distance to your destination and its proximity to major transportation routes.
Please note that First Choice’s interstate pricing is usually based on volume, not weight. (Our operating costs are based on how many items we can fit on a trailer, not how heavy those items are.)

Do you provide packing services or packing materials?
For every move, our team provides padded blankets and shrink wrap, free of charge to keep your belongings safe during the journey. 

We’re also happy to provide packing materials and several different levels of packing service for an additional cost. Please contact us and speak to a relocation specialist to learn more.

Is storage included in my move?
Every move includes one month of free storage. If you won’t be able to receive your belongings for several weeks, don’t worry about it – we’ll keep them safe in our warehouse until you’re ready for delivery.
Additional storage is available on a month-by-month basis with discounts for longer-term service.

Are my belongings insured in case of damage?
All your belongings are automatically covered at the standard Department of Transportation rate of $0.60 per pound. For an explanation of what this means, and to learn about additional insurance options, please read our insurance FAQ.

First Choice is a market leader in providing specialized services to meet our customers’ needs. We can provide expedited delivery that will get your items to their destination in a fraction of the time—or discounted transportation if you have a flexible delivery date.
